At the end of the hall in the maternity wing at Cape Cod Hospital, a couple welcomed their second child, and the first baby born on New Year’s Day at the hospital.

Musa Noor entered the world at 9:42 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 1, at 6 pounds 10 ounces. His mother, Reha Khalid, was well and happy that there were no complications. She was in labor for about 10 hours.

“They told us that three more patients are in the line, that they’re going to deliver their baby today, so let’s see who’s going to win first,” Khaild said, laughing in her hospital room, on Friday, Jan. 2.

The morning of their son’s arrival

Khalid woke in the middle of the night, around 2:30 a.m., with pain, but the couple didn’t think their day would end with their baby boy’s arrival.

“We knew it could be false still,” said Hamza Noor, the father. Noor went to work around 6 a.m., but just as he arrived, he received a call from Khalid that the pains had gotten worse.

“We called the doctor, came here, and they said ‘It’s labor,'” Noor said. “When we got here all the nurses were excited that there was no baby born yet, on the new year.”

Sooner than expected

“We expected that he will come on January 11 or maybe near January 11,” Khalid said.

With their first child, the pregnancy and labor had gone according to their plans, until the last moment when Khalid was told she would have to undergo an emergency C-section. Their first son, Essa, was born on the expected delivery date. He is now 3 1/2 years old.

For their second child, the couple worried with Khalid in labor 10 days early.

“We were scared, but everything was normal this time,” Noor said.

The couple lives in a multi-family home, including aunts, uncles and grandparents — all of whom were looking after their other son on New Year’s Day.

“That’s why we are here together, that we know the other baby is in good hands, so we don’t have to worry about anything,” said Noor.

Their first son planned to visit his parents and meet his little brother in the afternoon on Friday, Jan. 2.

“We’re excited too, because he’s so excited to meet his little brother,” Khalid said.

The couple planned to leave the hospital Jan. 3. with their newest, littlest addition to the family.
