The New, Futuristic Healthcare Facility In Manchester Offering Full-Body Scans That Map Millions Of Health Data Points

A new healthcare facility offering full-body scans using preventive technology to flag health concerns has arrived in Manchester. Making its Northern debut, Swedish-born healthcare company Neko Health has opened a health centre in The Lincoln on Brazennose Street in Manchester, less than a year after the company’s UK launch in London.

The Manchester health centre will have the capacity to offer its unique, non-invasive body scans that map millions of health data points on the body (both inside and out) to up to 20,000 people annually.

Neko Health aims to create “a proactive healthcare system”

CEO and founder of Neko Health, Hjalmar Nilsonne, says the company’s mission is to “create a proactive healthcare system”. In most healthcare systems, doctors tend to only get involved once symptoms appear and a patient seeks help, by which time a condition may already have progressed.

Neko Health, instead, aims to shift the focus to prevention through annual check-ups with their full-body scans. Plus, according to the health centre, this option could help reduce healthcare spending, as 75% to 80% of costs are linked to chronic diseases – many of which are preventable if caught early.

What does the full-body scan check for?

The full-body health check scan, which takes just under an hour to complete, is pretty comprehensive. During your scan, you’ll enter a futuristic pod that looks straight out of a Black Mirror episode, where Neko Health’s technology will scan your body for many biomarkers, as well as have an ECG, a blood sample taken, and have your eye pressure and grip strength tested.

The scan includes the assessment of moles and marks across the body, symptoms of metabolic syndrome, and risk factors for stroke and heart attack, along with blood sugar levels to assess pre-diabetes risk. Additionally, it checks for skin cancer and blood abnormalities. Immediately following the scan, members receive full results as part of an in-person, doctor-led consultation.

Manchester deserves to have “really, really great healthcare services”

Speaking to Hjalmar Nilsonne, on the decision to open in Manchester, he said: “We chose Manchester to launch as the first Northern site because cities like Manchester, with wonderful people, wonderful communities, also deserve to have really, really great healthcare services. We’re super thrilled to be here.

“We’ve been told from the very beginning that only the wealthy care about proactive health, and that it is a really stupid business idea, and I think we’ve always proven them wrong. Everyone thought Canary Wharf or something should be our next site, but we think there are huge opportunities outside of financial centres.”
